Cystoscopy is an important basic examination of the lower urinary tract . It makes possible to access the urethra, the prostatic urethra and the urinary bladder with direct view through a videocamera, built into the end of the scope. Besides, it is a mandatory examination in selected urological cases, regarding to international urological guidelines.
Flexible video cystoscopy
is executed in a back lying position,
painless, can be followed by the patient
on a video monitor. The device is adapted
to the anatomical curves of the urethra.
This is the contemporary method of
choice in modern cystoscopy.

In 2023 the painful straight and rigid steel tube cystoscopy, executed in a very uncomfortable lying position with legs fixed upward is an old-school method in urological diagnostics. This is the past and no longer has a place in contemporary cystoscopy.

Non-infectious origin of macrohaematuria (visible blood in the urine) without any other symtoms

Regular microhaematuria. When only the laboratory findings shows blood in the urine. No visible blood.

Lower Urinary Tract Symtoms (LUTS) irritations, unclear origin of pain felt when urinating

Recurrent urinary infections
